Greetings List,
If you have hit a brick wall, here's a little something to read to boost your spirits. Searching was a lot tougher THEN without the net.
THEN:
(From a copy of the pension file of John PLATT (1747-1850))
Canton Ohio Nov 13th 1896
Hon. Commissioner
of Pensions
Hon. Sir. I most respectfully beg to place before you the following query, and solicit from you a kindly answer to the same. Can you verify from documents in your care the following traditional family history -
A German immigrant Named PLOTT PLATT or perhaps BLATT, whose Christian name is said to have been John, was a revolutionary soldier, and a pensioner in the latter years of his life, resided in and died in Cambria Co. Pensylvannia (sic) about 1835 -
(Information from the records of the war department Washington D.C. are not satisfactory on this matter, as given me)
Any information from you of any kind whatever, relative to the said John PLOTT who is my Great Grand Father; will be thankfully, and appreciatively received.
Yours Truly,
V. Devinney
(street address)
Canton, Ohio
NOW:
(All info from the net &/or telephone calls)
