Sacramental records are generally kept at the parish where the
sacraments were administered. Records for closed or consolidated
parishes are either in the care of the consolidated parish, a nearby
parish or the diocesan archives. Sometimes "old" records--and the
definition of old would vary depending on the parish--also are placed in
some repository at the diocesan level.

It's best to write directly to the parish where the sacraments were
administered. Some parishes are quick to respond and provide
information--others are not. In most parishes, it's usually just a
pastor, maybe another priest and possibly a secretary. Obviously, the
larger parishes may have more staff. Their primary tasks however do not
generally include helping genealogists...many do, but others cannot and
that may explain for a lack of response to your inquiries.

Early Cambria Co. church records have been compiled by Ledoux--up to
1869. The volumes may still be for sale; or lots of folks on the list
have copies of all or some of the volumes.

I have written twice ( Nov. 99 and the first of March) and as of this date I've received no acknowledgement of my request. The Pittsburgh Diocese responded within days so I know that this service is still provided. I enclosed a self-addressed stamped envelope and offered to pay for copies or to make a donation to no avail.
