Until your post, Karen, I thought that I was the only one who had those
moments of intimacy with those who have walked this planet before me. For
me, it is a bonding, ... an intimate bonding, with those who were
responsible for my existence.

There is the sudden realization of the enormity of statistical probability
that the lives of my gx5grandparents, for example, even crossed in the
first place --- that had such an occurrence not happened, I wouldn't even
exist, ... nor my children .... nor precious grandchildren.

I have suffered, too, the awesome sadness of the moment when reality
finally strikes, .... to have walked at the side with someone of the past -
watch them grow through repetitive census', be with them on their wedding
day, trek with them from location to location across ocean and plain, watch
their children grow and multiply, etc. etc. - then suddenly realize that
these people you have become so intimate with, and have even learned to
love, died over a hundred years ago. There is almost a pain that is felt
when that "bubble of fantasia" suddenly bursts .... poofs into
nonexistence.
