Hi Barb,
Guess what? I m from Tanneryville and my family has been here for about
250 years!
There was an Elvie Bowser who died in the 1977 flood that was my former
aunts aunt. There is a part of the woods up from here caled "Benny
Bowsers' that I guess was the Bowser farm. My brothers family attends
the Bowserdale United Mehodist Church which is just up the road from me.
The name Tanneryville and also Bowserdale, refers to the hollow I live
in which is part of West Taylor Township. My ancestors were the Eckels
who would have lived very close your ancestors farm on their own farm
which is also no longer there.
Let me know which Bowsers you are searching for and I can ask my family
and neighbors to help fill in anything they may know.
West Taylor Township is located just outsifde of Jonstowns Coppersdale
neighborhood, and many Johnstowners never even heard of tanneryville!
-Even though folks have lived out here for centuries! ;)
West Taylor borders the Conemaugh River and the Townships of
Jackson,Middle Taylor and also the city linits of Johnstown.
Let me know what you need and I'll be glad to help you get in touch
with the folks here,I'm sure we can break down some of those mysteries!
I know of no-one in T-ville with the surname Bowser today-but I'm sure
there must be descendants here somewhere.
My uncle just told me Elvie was married to a Manny Bowser, but he's
unsure of his actual first name. Elvies name would be among the names on
the 1977 flood memorial at the local firehall.
Elvies sister Glarys just passed away a few years ago,she was my former
aunts mother. I'll try to contact my former Aunt Shirley to see what she
cn add.
Barry
