Hi List!

Remember our discussion about naturalization a couple
weeks ago? I thought you might like to know how I made
out.

On Sept. 2 I sent a letter to the Cambria County
Prothonotary, Cambria County Courthouse, 200 South
St., Ebensburg, PA 15931. I asked for the Declaration
of Intent and Petition for Citizenship for two of my
ancestors. I provided their names, place of birth,
date of birth and the approximate date of arrival in
Cambria County. (Note: in this case both ancestors
arrived in the U.S. and went directly to Johnstown
where they they established their residency.)

Today, Sept. 10, eight days later, including mail
time, I received copies of the documents!

The bad news is that apparently word processors were
not used in the 1840's, but I'm looking forward to
deciphering the papers :)

I have had several experiences with the Cambria County
offices over the past few months, all by mail, and I
have found them to be very helpful and fast in
responding.

Sorry about the length of this, but I hope it can be
of some help to you. Thank you all for your advice on
naturalization.

Sue
