It works like this. Your mom's first cousin is your first cousin once
removed. They would be twice removed to your kids. Your mom's first cousins
kids would be your second cousin.
When it is a relation to your mother and you want to know how you relate,
that is when you are removed however many generations. In order to be a
second or third (or whatever) cousin, it has to be in the same generation.
So, your grandkids and your brother or sisters grandkids would be second
cousins because their parents are first cousins.
So, your gf's cousins would be your cousin twice removed. I have a site
