Hi Folks.
I have subscribed to many lists over the years, but can honestly say this is
one of if not 'the' best.
Even if you do not post, its an education on so many things.

I am in Canada, and many things US are not immediately apparent to me - such
as your Social Security.
Maybe someone can advise me on this.

My Grandfather was born in Johnstown 1878-1888, and died in an accident in
1918.
We know my Grandmother was near penniless after, and had to work as a Cook,
among other things.
Its a near certainty he would have an SSI number, but I have never found any
reference.

I am told that this must be either because he 'predated' SSI, or there was
never any claim.
What is the story here?
