Oh I think it's definately worth it. From that I submitted to gendex.com which
is a search type deal...you type in a surname, it spits back links to every
person who has submitted that surname. Click on a first name and have a whole
gedcom to look at on the web.
On AOL you can do a surname search and if someone has a similar surname you
can download their gedcom...9 times out of 10 you get a 20,000 person gedcom
and the name turns out to be "Unknown Huish" or just plain not who you were
looking for. My computer has memory problem as it is...I dont go there.
I get people sending email asking what info do you have on such and such...I
email back saying check here
<A HREF="http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/surnames.htm">my surnames</A> . Or
they ask what Plummers I have after seeing my name on surname pages etc....I
have over 325..I just send them
<A HREF="http://members.tripod.com/~KHuish/names1.htm#PLUMMER">names1#PLUMMER
</A> They click away. And if they dont find the person they still ask "but do
you have so and so" which is frustrating...if I had them theyd be there. But
I've been able to compare my research with other researchers easier and change
what they bring to my attn thats wrong...and Ive been able to give people a
lot of info that I have easily too.
And...Ive met LOTS of new cousins!
But to me..it is worth it.
