Just wanted to make two points:

1. My understanding is that the earlier Valley Meeting House was located on
the west side of the road, near the burial ground. The current meeting house
was constructed in 1869, according to the datestone. Its orientation appears
to be ninety degrees different from the earlier meeting house, as it faces
west rather than south.

2. According to reports I have heard, the liberal Friends in California use
mid-twentieth century developments in their worship, with much more emphasis
on social liberalism than traditional Quaker spirituality. For example,
"worship sharing" is a practice that emerged after World War II just after
the format of arranging the seats in a circle for worship. Among earlier
generations of Friends, and continuing through the 20th century among
Conservative Friends, ministry was understood to be the result of an
immediate inward motion or anointing from Christ Jesus.
