Good guess, but I know that my father's and my uncle's records were among the
destroyed records destroyed in the 197os in St. Louis but I found them in
this database -- once I pared down the information I supplied in the form blanks.
In my case, I found my father, my uncle, and one of their cousins who
enlisted in the army as well as one of their cousins who enlisted in the National
Guard by removing all known information until I had filled in ONLY the last name
blank, the state of residence blank, and the county of residence blank. Then
they all four popped up in the search results. I checked the boxes next to
their names and was able to pull up all four records.
If you've tried limiting the information entered in the search page
blanks and still cannot find them, then your missing family members may be among
those records NARA describes as being unable to be converted to the digital
format necessary to put them online. (The description is included in NARA's
online description of the database.) Perhaps a telephone call to NARA could
get some clarification or additional information for you.
