Message Board Post:

Grace REID was born 20 October 1833 in Old Monkland, Nr. Glasgow, Scotland, the eldest daughter of William REID and Elizabeth Clark. Grace married John Morrison on 18 November 1853 at Glasgow. I belive Grace's sister also married a Morrison, I think it must have been Ann. But unable to find out. My mother said that there were two sisters who went to New Zealand.

Grace had four sons before going to New Zealand, the only one of the four who survived was John Reid Morrison born 28 April 1857, in Govan, Glasgow. She went on to have another six children in New Zealand the youngest two being Grace and Eliza. Incidentally, my grandfather's name was John Reid Morrison McAulay and he was the son of Grace Reid's sister, Janet, my great-grandmother. This is what started my search into the Morrisons, as I wanted to find how he got the name MORRISON.

As well as finding John and Grace's family in the 1880 census for Greasewood, Umatilla, Oregon, I have found another Morrison family, four brothers, living in 1880 in 3rd Enumeration District, Whitman, Washington. The eldest being born in Scotland and the other three born in New Zealand. They also have the same christan names as Grace's sons. This looks like the other sister's family, but there are no parents.
