Athena- The Womens Christian Temperance union was hostess on Tuesday to a county institute when members were present from Hermiston, Pendleton, Weston, Milton and Freewater. Mrs Fred Tooze of Portland, the state president and Mrs W.R. Wyrick state director of temperance and missions were present to address the groups.
Mrs. M. H. Rice of Milton gave a bible study in a devotional period. A no-host luncheon at 12:30 p.m. was served by Mrs Bertha Monte, Mrs Jessie Crabill, Mrs Mabel Coppock, Mrs Ruby Wideners and Mrs Fred Teague.
Plans were made for a county convention in mid September.
~Mignonette Rebekah lodge met on Tuesday night with twenty present.The new members were welcomed. From a distance were Mrs. Klev Hooker and Mrs. Mary Swayze. During a social period Mrs C.O. Hanlon and Mrs. Dora Schubert served refreshments.
~Mrs. L M Keen is spending the week with relatives in Enumclaw.
~Mrs Dennis Swart and daughter Mary Ann will arrive on Thursday from Portland to visit Mrs James Foster. Miss Swart will attend the C.E. state convention in Pendleton. Dr. Swart will join his family here on Saturday.
~George Myrick is a patient at St. Mary's hospital in Walla Walla.
~Mrs Clyde Dickenson returned on Tuesday from a visit to her brother George Gross, at Union.
~The Rev and Mrs C. Paul Moore returned on Wednesday from a trip to Corbett and Portland.
~Orel Michener of Umatilla, bus driver from Portland to Pendleton visited his mother Mrs Klev Hooker on Monday. She will leave this week for her home in Bremerton.
~Miss Sylvia Hardin is convalescing sastisfactorily following an appendectomy. She is a patient at St Mary's Hospital.
~Mrs Lydia Myrick was hostess at a dinner on Tuesday in honor of Mrs Mary Swayze an old time resident here, who is moving from Enterprise to Eugene.
~Mrs Jess Smith has returned from Eatonville where she visited the Roy Moores.
~Several members of Mignonette Rebekah Lodge visited the lodge at Weston on Monday night when the fiftieth anniversary was observed.
~Gail Herndon and James Benes made a trip on Sunday to C. O. Hanlon's ranch in Wallowa county where they found Athena's former mayor busy with his cattle and his hogs.
