FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR JOE D. CORDELL
Joe D. Cordell, 604 S. Mill St., died October 2, 1954, at a local nursing home at the age of 85 years, 2 months and 20 days.
Cordell was born in July 12, 1969, in North Carolina, the eldest child of a family of nine children, two of whom three brothers are still living. In 1906 he moved to the northwest and in 1910 moved to Milton. He lived at the family home since 1922.
As a young man he engaged in dairy farming, later working on the railroad until his retirement 15 years ago.
Three years ago he became a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist church and was a most faithful in attendance and manifested an active interest in church functions. Being of a kindly disposition he had a host of friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Lily Mae Tracy of Umpine and Mrs. Diantha Karker of Spokane; one son Robert R. Cordell of Sacramento, Calif., seven grandchildren six great-grandchildren and three brothers.
Funeral services were held on Monday October 4, in a Walla Walla chapel at 2pm. Elder Melvin Oss officiating. Music was provided by Marjorie Bliss, Virginia Grogan, Elva Ayres with Mrs. Norman Siebold at the organ. They sang "Does Jesus Care", "Heartaches", and "Sweet be Thy Rest."
Pallbearer were Orman Fox, Burton Bliss, Homer Murphy, Cecil Brody, Harold Steen and John Hickman.
Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery.
