> The R.C. orphanage for boys was established in 1854 by the Brothers of
Mercy. It was located in a disused barracks to which other buildings were
later added. In 1906 the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary
took over the orphanage. It seems to have closed in 1935.

> The Orphanage took R.C. Children from various poor law institutions
throughout London. Some of the Boards of Guardians maintained separate
registers of children attending the school, (Holborn and Lambeth). The
records of which are deposited at LMA. Unfortunately we do not hold records
or images of the institution itself. You may wish to contact the archivist
of the Archdiocese of Westminster - Father Ian Dickie, Westminster Diocesan
Archives, 16a Abingdon Road, London W8 6AF telephone [020] 7938 3580. He
may be able to suggest further sources that may be of assistance.
