Hi to all, you may know that I transcribed the 1891 census for the Liverpool
Sheltering Home and sent it to Marj Kohli who did such a fantastic job and
matched up all those children from the Canadian Archives database. Go to
this site if you have not been there before.
http://www.dcs.uwaterloo.ca/~marj/genealogy/homeadd.html
I have also transcribed a few other orphanages which appear on the Liverpool
FHS webpage at
http://www.lswlfhs.freeserve.co.uk/orphanages.htm
Of course I do not know what happened to these children or whether they were
ever 'emigrated' anywhere. Whilst I have been looking for my family in the
1891 census (and not having much luck either!!) I kept coming across
orphanages in Liverpool. The ones on this webpage are only a VERY small
number of those that existed at the time. Also at the end of the Liverpool
orphanages is a listing that I 'picked' up from an old Cheshire magazine a
long time ago (with acknowledgement to the transcriber E.F. May). Mrs
Gladstone's Ophanages (wife of the Prime Minister) at Hawarden, Flints in
1871.
Do have a look as not all children (or staff) are from the Liverpool area,
many from other parts of the UK and in fact Mrs Gladstone's orphanage has
mainly Londoners.
I have attached at the end of this email a Ragged School I sent recently
which is not on the Liverpool FHS page as yet.
I am in the middle of 'doing' Canon Lester's Boys Home at the moment, quite
hard to decipher. With this and ALL the stuff I have transcribed, I have
only done my best, please have a good look at the names as not all will be
100% correct. Please if there are any amendments to be made let me know and
even better if just one person 'finds' somebody I would be so thrilled to
hear about it. Anybody can link to this site or use the information but
acknowledgement would be appreciated.
TIA
Kind Regards
