Dear All,
A great many herbs used to season and preserve the ale, yes. But do we know
which ones had the same hypnotic and narcotic quality as hops? Many people
who drink beer/ale on a regular basis crave the brew for the effect that the
Humulus has on the brain.
A very close relative to Hops is Cannabis.
I have been told that some new world initiates tried to graft a hop vine to
a pot plant and vice a versa. Their success was never reported.
