Reading of Shakespeare's "unvarnished truth" reminded me that
Shakespeare is sometimes quoted when the Bible is the origin. And can
we suppose vice versa on occasion? I recall my grandfather saying
to my father, "Once a man, twice a boy." Without doing the research
myself, is that an example of Shakepeare using the Bible?
The unvarnished truth brings to mind "made of whole cloth." Is
that another of those "textile" phrases?
