One could go crazy tracking these things!!
Yet another site seems to indicate that an infected version of the
sulfnbk utility is being used as an email attachment to spread
another virus. This is not the same thing as the 'hoax' warning
message.
>From http://www.securityportal.com/articles/nohoax20010516.html
"Because of how the events have unfolded in the past few days, it is
SecurityPortal's view that Sulfnbk.exe emails, previously identified as a
hoax, are actually poorly constructed warnings about Magistr being
distributed as an email attachment with the filename Sulfnbk.exe.
"There is no reason to remove Sulfnbk.exe from the local drive of a
machine.
"However, any copy of Sulfnbk.exe received as an email attachment
should be considered infected until scanned with updated antivirus
software (which can detect Magistr). Few people actually use this
program and nobody needs to be sending it out via email."
The above site tells you what to do if you want to re-install the real
utility if you did delete it. As mentioned in a previous email referring to
another anti-virus site, the real file does have a peculiar look to it.
All this goes to show that a lttle research should be done before
forwarding any virus warning message that has the hallmarks of a
hoax. And a little extra research should have been done by me before
responding in the first place.
Sorry for any confusion caused by my confusion! :-( and sorry for
cluttering up the list with indecision. :-((
Cheers,
Liz
