Hi Lynda,

That is strongly believed to be the origin of the saying, however
there is no evidence extant whatsoever to support it. Other ideas have been
posed? A 'Man O' War' kept the majority of its Shot below on the
Gun-decks? And, such pyramids of balls were possibly only created when in
port/dock so the ship then being, "All Shipshape & Bristol Fashion"; that
doesn't discount it though.

Make a Powder Monkey jump if he had one of those Balls on
his tootsie!:-))
