Hi Mikey & Elizabeth,

Thanks for the replies. As to origin, Elizabeth, it comes from the name of =
a farm in Ettrick Water, Scottish Borders, called Gilmanscleuch. I am quite=
comfortable with Cleuch but the 'gilman' puzzled me. I suspect Mikey may b=
e correct with Gill but there is the possibility of Old Gaelic 'gille' mean=
ing servant. I put it no higher than that.
