Another possibility could be that, since the careful
hopping was similar to the moving jumps in the Scottish
Sword Dances, that it is a form of Hop-Scottish. Whatcha'
think?

Does anyone know the origin of the term "Hop-scotch"?
I wonder if it
started out as "Scratch"... since that is how it was played
"before
side-walks".
