Re: Hogs...livestock on the loose was the practice up until this century.
For instance in Owen County, Indiana, pigs of all sizes and ages ran
the streets; hence houses and gardens were fenced, and a town board
called a meeting to discuss "hog up or hog out". The hog out side won
because families needed the meat and could not afford to feed pigs
"boughten" corn. Early laws involved registering a person's mark (brand)
