Subject: [OEL] Request for help with Anthony Wood diaries
Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2007 19:59:00 +0100
Dear all,
I'm really hoping that someone might have access to a Library which holds
the Anthony Wood diaries. He was an Oxford historian, and I've been given
references he made to my Sherlock line, especially Richard Sherlock who
lodged at some time with Anthony Wood's mother:
>From the index of Anthony Wood Diaries.
Sherlock, Richard, New College, died 1689
i. 151-2
ii. 264, 316, 552
iii. 38
Sherlock, William, died 1707
ii. 447
iii. 94, 341, 346, 360, 413, 492
I thought I had tracked down these books on Sunday morning at Newcastle
University, Robinson Library, but a journey to the Library showed only one
volume, and it didn't cover the references I had been given (except that the
Library was fabulous, what an atmosphere).
Can anyone advise me how many volumes there should be in the set, and to
which volume/s the references refer, or if some wonderful soul could extract
the references, (I would be more than happy to reimburse any expense
incurred), it would be wonderful. Google books show some enticing snippets,
but not the whole book.
I apologise if this is off-topic, I've e-mailed the Bodleian Library, but no
response, and also the Oxfordshire List, but no reply yet and I'm not quite
sure who else to ask.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Kind regards,
Yvonne Purdy (nee Sherlock)
Hexham, Northumberland.
