Would any one know what looks to be an ampersand with a 'c' enclosed in a
circle after the Registration district means?

The entry was taken from birth index for 1842 and read:

Williams David Newtown & [?] xxvii 134
Williams David Bangor & [?] xxvii 294

XXVII seems to encompass a few districts so we were wondering whether
it just meant 'et c.,' .

The first fiche of the GRO index was checked and also some introductory
booklets and guides on Civil Registration.

A search of free BDM did not give any more than the above.
