Hi Jan,
There's a town called Shane in Jefferson County, northwest of
Steubenville and just north of Jefferson Lake State Park.
Also, a man named B. Frank Shane was involved in a counter-
feiting scheme with one of my relatives, Samuel S. Conn, and
a number of others including a Carroll County Justice of the
Peace. I've recently received transcriptions from the Daily
Steubenville Herald of articles about the arrests.
B. Frank Shane is described only as being from Shanghai (I
haven't learned yet where that is/was), and from a respectable
family in Jefferson County. Eighteen men were sent to the
Ohio Penitentiary in 1859, but Shane is not listed in the June
1860 prison census, so perhaps he wasn't convicted.

I am searching for any information on the SHANE or McINTIRE families, of
Jefferson County.
