Vern,

When I first started tracing my family tree I found that my mother wasn't
listed in the SSDI. I know she had an SS card and I knew her b. and d.
dates. I called the local SS adm. and they told me not everyone would be
the SSDI. If a person did not work the last 12 (?could have been 10) years
of their life they would not appear in an SSDI. If you have a b. date for
him you might want to write a request to the SS admn. for information.

Reeses in the area: If you go to http://www.smartpages.com/whitepages/ and
do a surname search in Auburn (include surrounding area) you will find 121
listings. The are only the people who have listed phone numbers and it will
give you an address.

Who has the death cert: The army would certainly have a copy which you
could probably request through your local VA or through NARA. They may have
shared a copy with the State of New York but a death record would not be
found in his resident county.

FOR THOSE WHOSE DIRECT FAMILY (Father or Grandfather, etc) served in the
military: Did you know that NARA has a replacement medals program? They
will only accept a request for replacement medals from ONE family member.
They will send them to you free of charge as long as they are in stock. (If
out of stock they will send you a cataloge of a company that sells the
missing ones) You don't have to know what medals they had. I found this
information by digging around in http://www.nara.gov/ and received my
father's medals within 6 months of request. You can also obtain a
Presidential Memorial Certificate (signed by the current President and also
free of charge) by writing to :
Department of Veteran's Affairs
National Cemetery Administration (403A)
810 Vermont Ave., N. W.
Washington, D. C. 20420
