Hey Jerry,
Thanks for the reply to my inquiry. My mother seems to think her Dad
died in either 1963 or 1964 in Ledyard. Apparently, Charles and Ethel
divorced at some point and Ethel remarried.
The Charles you found may be my Charles' father. I don't know how large
Ledyard is or how many Reese's are living in the area, but it could be
possible. I have tried the SSDI index and several databases trying to find
some information on Charles, but came up with nothing.
I have just sent off for Smith's birth certificate and I will also send
off for his death certificate, as soon as I figure out who to request it
from. He was killed in action during World War II, in France on September
3, 1944. He managed to get through the D-Day invasion on Omaha Beach with
only a wound that required a short hospital stay, only to return to his unit
and get killed. I haven't been able to figure out where I would go to
request his death certificate. He is buried in Woodlawn Veteran's Cemetery
in Elmira. His body was brought back from France in 1949. Who would have
his death certificate, Albany or the U.S. Army?
Thanks again for the information. Would you have any other suggestions
for me to search? An obituary would be nice, but I have to get his date of
death first. His full name was Charles Reeder Reese.
Vern King
