I can just barely remember seeing a troop train one time. The service
men were hanging out the windows and waving at the traffic going by.
There were in what seemed to be box cars with open windows cut out of
them. I was very small then tho',

As we waited for the trains to pass so we could get to school I remember that the servicemen threw little pieces of paper with their names and addresses on them so people would write them. Do any of you remember this? I often think about the changes that took place in our town as the war unfolded. We picked up pieces of tin foil from the cigarette packages and rolled it into large balls to send for the war effort. We went to bond rallies and I babysat and bought savings stamps with my pay. I saved them until I had enough to turn in for a bond. Was a good lesson in saving. We had a USO near the train depot too. It had been an old Harvey House.
