Thank you all for your information. What happened was that the sons went
back to England. Then on the
ship Sield went to Burlington, NJ and helped settle the Quakers. Then
eventually the family (like so many others) ended up in Ohio and Indiana. My
Antrim's married into the White family.
Interesting earlier fact or mystery. From many of the Antrim "cousins" I
have "met" online have they same story. Apparently during the reighn (sp)
of Bloody Mary the English would go to Ireland (Northern) and take your
children for a tax credit if you didn't pay your taxes. Rummor has it that
two little boys were taken back to Salisbury, England and taught a tread and
adopted by a Lord Antrim. So that is how the name supposedly happened and
not Antrim, Northen Ireland. Most cousins are interested in finding out
what the original name before the adoption. This happened between 1550-1600.
The Burlington, NJ Historical Society has a page on the above that I have
held in my hand and read. Hopfully, my husband and I are planning a trip to
England and I hope to find out more information up close and personal.
Salisbury is right near Stonehenge. So when I "heard" about this possible
connection with Chriehaven Island I thought it might lead to some
more "fresh" information. Oh well. Be well, Mary Young, New Hampshire
