BATTLE OF CAMDEN REMEMBRANCE WEEKEND, Camden, SC


AUGUST 18-19, 2001 Saturday/10-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.; Kershaw-Cornwallis
House.The 221st anniversary of the Battle of Camden, one of the worst rebel
defeats of the Revolution, is August 16, 2001. In commemoration, Historic
Camden will host its annual Battle of Camden Remembrance Weekend. Come meet
re-enactors of various British regiments and learn first-hand about life on the
campaign trail and the British point of view of the Southern Campaign of the
American Revolution. Each day living history mini skits will be presented by the
re-enactors and volunteers. Saturday's skits will revolve around Cornwallis and
his troops preparing for the pending battle; Sunday's skits will focus the
aftermath of the battle and the punishment of captured prisoners. "Sunrise at
Gum Swamp," a half-hour South Carolina WRJA/ETV documentary about the Battle of
Camden, will be shown at various times throughout the weekend.
