I am researching 3 BAIN families who were in Mecklenburg Co. prior to =
1790. They were ROBERT BEAN, WILLIAM BEAN, and WILLIAM BAIN.
ROBERT BEAN, b 1738, m MARTHA MC DONALD, b 1744, and they lived in the =
Rocky River area (of Cabarrus Co.). ROBERT d 1801 in Cabarrus Co. =
Shortly thereafter his children changed the spelling of their surname to =
B-A-I-N:
1. DANIEL BAIN, b 1762; m MARGARET MC KACARINE; remained in =
Cabarrus Co.
2. JOHN BAIN, b 1765; m SARA CARRUTHERS.
3. CHARLES BAIN, b 1768; m sisters MARTHA and MARGARET =
CARRUTHERS; moved to TN in the 1800s and back to Cabarrus Co. in the =
1810s.
4. ROBERT BAIN, b1770; m OLLIE CARRUTHERS and SARA LEE; moved to =
Knox Co., KY.
5. MARGARET BAIN, b 5-12-1773; m HENRY PHARR; remained in =
Cabarrus Co.
6. WILLIAM BAIN, b 1775; m TEANE ANDREW; moved to Jackson Co., =
AL in the 1820s.
7. ALEXANDER BAIN, b 1777; m MARGRETH ANDREW and MARGARET =
KEMMONS; moved to Marshall Co., AL in the 1820s.
8. or 9. JAMES BAIN, b 1783-1790; m KATHERINE LEWIS ERWIN (or =
BETSY IRVIN).
8. OR 9. MATTHEW BAIN, b 4-11-1785; m SOPHIA MC GINTY, moved to =
Attala Co., MS in the 1830s.

The wife of WILLIAM BEAN, SR., b 1735-1740, is unknown. WILLIAM may =
have been a brother of ROBERT above. WILLIAM lived in the Back Creek =
area of Mecklenburg Co. and his family attended the Philadelphia =
Presbyterian Church. These BEANs changed the spelling of their surname =
in the early 1800s. WILLIAM had 7 or 8 children:
1. DANIEL BAIN, b 1762; Revolutionary War Veteran; m SARAH ROSS; =
moved to TN, IL, and IN.
2. ROBERT BAIN, b 1765-1775; m MARY IRWIN; moved to IN in the =
1820s.
3. WILLIAM BAIN, JR., b 6-19-1767; m MARGARET MC CRACKEN; moved =
to Burke Co., NC in the 1800s and to Hardin Co., TN by 1830.
4. Unknown female.
5. JOHN BAIN, b 1773; m ELIZABETH WILSON; remained in =
Mecklenburg Co. Their son JOHN was the founder of Bain Academy across =
from Philadelphia Church (formerly a high school; now a grade school).
6. Unknown female.
7. HUGH BAIN, b 1778; m ELIZABETH HOOD and ANN ELLEN: remained =
in Mecklenburg Co.
8. ELIZABETH BAIN, b 1781; m WILLIAM BUTLER
WILLIAM BAIN, b 1749-1760; m ELIZABETH MC CORKLE (nee GREER); lived =
briefly near the intersection of Mecklenburg, Rowan, and Iredell Cos; =
moved to Blount Co., TN in the 1790s. Their children were:=20

5. WILLIAM BAIN, JR., b 10-1-1795 in Kannapolis, NC; m MARY H. =
STEPHENSON and FERABY CAGLE; moved to Blount Co., TN, Monroe Co., TN, =
and Polk Co., TN.
6. JAMES BAIN, b 1-6-1798 in NC,; m SARAH BREWER; moved to =
Blount Co., TN and eventually to Madison Co., TN.
7. ARTHUR BAIN, b 1801; m ELENER MC PHERREN; eventually moved to =
