Rick, I hardly know what to say to you on this topic anymore. Your issue is
with the definition of Melungeon, a question which still to be decided, but
clearly Melungeons existed prior to 1813. The word must have been in use
for some time before it was written down, and we know the Melungeon core
families came from coastal Virginia and migrated westward into the
mountains.
I rather regret my use of the term hard-liner before to describe a certain
attitude. It was certainly not meant in the sense that you are using it.
