Annette,
I have found a case where a man was given a rank for as many soldiers as he
brought with him that he had enlisted. This was a North Carolina Cherokee
named John Wood who many brought other tribal members to fight in the war of
1812. He was later given a reservation,
they called it, in Northern Tennessee of land, but was to never sell it. He
gave it to his son-in-law. I don't know if this was allowed , but this is
the story. John was either my gg or ggg grandfather.
