Note that in this census, Dominique Belasagui would probably....probably
have been Spanish or Portuguese and it would really have been spelled
Dominic Velasco in his own country. My cousins, named Basco here, had
their name spelled Vasque/Vasquo/Vasques/Basque/Basquo and now we are
down to Basco. The name was taken directly from their land of origin:
the Basque region in France/Spain. They were supposed to have come down
from Canada to Louisiana. They were very separate from the other
settlers, spoke their own language for a long time and did not mix well.
