Sharyn McCrumb is one of my favorite regional American mystery writers. Her
books are beautifully researched and written. She caused some controversy in
her book "The Ballad of Frankie Silver" by filling in gaps in the historical
record with her own imagination. But she does write novels (fiction) after
all! She seems to recreate the atmosphere of that area of East TN and West
NC that is the home to our Melungeon Kin.
I recommend her highly for a good read. Thanks, Elizabeth for sharing that.
BTW, I am returning to the list after many months absence. Researching the
origins of my brick wall, William Rainwater, born 1806 TN, died 1866 Wayne
Co MS. My mother was one of those "different" children with olive skin and
exotic features, born into an otherwise "plain white" family. She resembled
Brent Kennedy's mother, if you have seen that picture at the website.
Does anyone know why I can never access www.melungeon.org anymore? Has the
address changed?
Thanks,
Cindy Rainwater McLaughlin
