On the question about how to find material on Shepard Gibson, Pat Elder's
book has several references which can be found by looking up Gibson in her
index. The name of the Pat Elder book from Continuity Press is Melungeons:
Examining an Appalachian Legend. I think there is a web site at
www.continuitypress.com - I'm not totally certain on the URL - or you can
check your local library and see if you can borrow a copy. Kay
