Hi Raymond,
I cannot find a HABBERTON either, and am sure this must be HARBERTON.
HARBERTON 1930.O.N.161432.
4,585 g.t., 400ft x 54.5ft, single screw, 9.5 knots. Built 1930 by Short
Bros, Sunderland (Yard No.442) for J & C. Harrison, London. 1947 struck a
mine off the Greek coast on voyage Alexandria to Stratoni, beached,
refloated and towed to Kavalla, then Piraeus, repaired at Genoa. 1951 sold
to Meiji Kaiun K.K., Kobe renamed MEISEI MARU, 1952 owned by Nichiro Gyogyo
K.K., Tokyo. 1957 converted to motor vessel. 1960 sold to Hokuyo Suisan
K.K., Tokyo renamed SHINYO MARU. 14th Nov.1965 stranded and sank in heavy
weather at Estori, east coast of Sakhalin Island.[Starke / Schell Directory]
[British Tramps by I. G. Stewart]
HARBERTON 1894. O.N.102892.
1,443 g.t., 247ft x 35.3ft, single screw. Built 1894 by S. P. Austin & Son,
Sunderland (Yard No.185) for J & C. Harrison, London. 1896 sold to Wm. Cory
& Son, London. 29th Mar.1917 sailed from Blyth for London with coal and went
missing. Presumed torpedoed.
J & C. Harrison, London owned a large fleet of tramp ships. If your enquirer
has an Official Number, it would identify the correct ship!
regards
Ted
