This is not a question but an observation that may help others. For some years I have searched in vain for a British national birth at sea but it was not in the BMD records at the Family Record Centre.
nationalarchivist.com have recently published the Register of births, marriages and deaths at sea, 1854 to 1890, as reported by the Masters to the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen. The list is BT158 at the National Archives. The site is very easy to use and immediately brought up my missing birth. It also showed me another birth that I knew nothing of. To search the database of names is free but there is a small charge to see an image of the original entry in the Register. they are planning to index the Ship's name soon.
