Hi Listers,
This is a long shot, but I have reached the proverbial brick wall.
For some time I have been tracing a British mariner ancestor John Penboss
(also seen as Penbost, Pemboss, Pinboss) backwards through his ship records,
and have him leaving a Liverpool registered ship called Rose in Great
Yarmouth in November 1861, whereupon he immediately joined his next ship.
Unfortunately, the crew list for the Rose does not seem to have survived,
and so the trail is broken.
I am asking if anyone with an 1861 or 1860 British crew list with a few
minutes to spare might do me a great favour and see if he appears as a
seaman on such lists. He would have been around 20 at that time. If I can
return the favour via Australian lookups please let me know.
regards
