Subject: [Mar] RANGER, Cutter

Hi everyone, I hope 2004 brings you all you would wish for.
I am looking for details of a ship named RANGER, unfortunately a fairly common name.
She served in Port Phillip (Melbourne) during the late 1830s and early 1840s.
Her Master was John Mansel Scott in 1839.
She was described as being a Cutter, and appears to have had the duties of a Customs/Police vessel.
Now, would someone be able to track her origens for me? And her subsequent fate?
A Google search revealed Scott's name, and one other escapade where Ranger intecepted a stolen ship off Melbourne,
but that's about all I could find.
Thanks in anticipation,
Mike Scott-Williams
