I hope this is the list on which Ted Henderson suggested reading The Inside War. While the book is very stilted, and probably was written for a Masters Thesis, it does shed some light on what went on in Missouri during the Civil War.

There were many quotes from letters and diaries given in the book which can lead you to accurate representations of the era and area. These letters and diaries are harder to find, but the Historical Society has a very good collection.

The book can also give a good insight into the terrible happenings. While the book seems to dwell on the lawlessness, and the author's predetermined view, it does have a way of portraying the fear and division of the era even discounting the kowtowing to academe.

Thanks Ted.
