Subject: Lucretia Watts Jones disappears and is found dead
Date: Mon, 10 Jul 2006 16:51:46 -0700 (PDT)
Dear List,
Larkin Howard and Lucretia Watts Jones and their children left NC in Oct, 1869 on their way with other relatives [51 Wagon Train?] to Crawford Co, Kansas. Due to lack of money, this couple had to stop. They stayed with Larkin's aunt and uncle, William and Nancy Jones Downs. The Downs had been in Madison Co since at least 1840.
Neither family is found in the 1870 census due, I guess, to the mess in Mo after the War.
In 1873 Lucretia Watts Jones dies in Kansas. She is buried in the Cherokee Cem. in Cherokee Co which is just over the line from Crawford Co where the relatives lived. There is, of course, no death certificate for her. There is a State census in 1875, but that was after she died.
Anyone on this list know anything more than I do?
Alanna
