Re.the recently posted message regarding
Amos MIKSCH and Charles Francis FENNER, the
following newspaper clipping from long ago
is relevant - I had forgotten I had it!

The following text is from an old newspaper clipping
which I think must be from a Bethelem PA 1862 newspaper
or a Moravian publication of that time:
>
> A BROTHER FALLEN IN BATTLE.- considering the large
> number of Moravians that have joined the armies of
> their country-and we find some in every division-the
> casualties among them have been very few, for which
> we have reason to be exceedingly thankful. Yet now
> again the sad intelligence comes to us from the West,
> that a brother has been slain in battle. In the battle
> of Apache Canon, which took place on the 28th of March,
> about twenty miles from Santa Fe, in New Mexico, fell
> Charles Fenner, whilst fighting bravely. He was wounded
> by a ball in the left side, and after suffering for
> seven hours, died and was buried on the battle-field.
> There was near him a friend and comrade in arms, Amos
> Miksch, who was permitted to soothe his dying agonies by
> his presence. They belonged to the First Regiment of
> Colorado Volunteers, Co. D., Captain Downing.
>
> Charles Fenner resided for several years in this place,
> and made himself many friends here. His sister, at that
> time teacher in the Seminary, now laboring in the cause of
> the Gospel as a missionary in the West India Islands, took
> a lively interest in his welfare; and to her probably more
> than to any other of the surviving relatives, will this
> painful intelligence come as a stunning blow. We bespeak for
> her the sympathy and prayers of her friends.
>
[Note:the sister referred to here is Josephine Amelia
Fenner Warner, Mary Ann Fenner's only sister.]
