My husband's Davis/Howell family cemetery in Andrew County, MO has four of their family slaves buried in the cemetery.? You may already have the following information since there are pictures of their headstones on the cemetery site:

Carriger, Christian - d. May 29, 1890 - aged 74 years

Carriger, Harriet - wife of Christian - d. Aug. 1874 - aged 58 years
Fine, Susan - wife of A. E. Fine - d. Aug 15, 1875 - aged 22 years
Fine, Margaret - dau. of M. E. Fine - d. July 31, 1875 - aged 5 years
Also, there is a notation of a Fout/Out, Harriett (possibly the above mentioned Harriet Carriger?) with no stone

When we visited the cemetery in 2001 the stones were hard to read and many were face down.? I don't know who turned them over so that they could be read and photographed but we want to say "thank you" for doing so.

I'm trying to put together a comprehensive study on African-Americans (both free
and slave) in Andrew Co. from its inception in the 1840s to 1930, or later. I
would appreciate any and all information that anyone might have, and will share
what I have, as my project goes along.

Helpful information could include:

Andrew Co. Wills or probate files which include names or descriptions of slaves;

Family lines of Black Andrew countians;

Family lore (of slaveholding families) which mentions slaves or servants by name
or description;

Information on any of the slave-holding families of Andrew Co. 1843 through
emancipation.

Or anything else you might think of which could relate to this project. It can
be something as simple as "My Aunt Daisy had a Black servant named Polly in
1920," or "Grandpa used to say there were slaves buried out behind our barn," or
"An African-American merchant had a store in Bolckow."

Thanks in advance for any help. Feel free to post to the List, since other
people may be interested in the information, or contact me directly if any
information is personal or delicate.
