I am researching my family history and searching for information concerning
my Great-Great-Grandfather, Thomas J. Davidson, who came to Missouri in the
early 1830's. In the 1840's he moved to Wayne County, Mo., where he is
mentioned in the census and several area history books as a Northern M.E. Clergy
(fully-ordained), in other records, both of his younger brothers are also listed
as M.E. clergy and his brother, Jonas, is listed in the history books for
Dunklin County, Mo. as having organized the "Old Gravel Hill" Church, in that
county. Their younger sister Julia, married the Reverend Elder John Henry Wade,
who is known as the Nestor of Arkansas Methodism. Although I have found
several records for Rev.Wade's time of service, even before he came to
Arkansas, I have had very little luck finding much else on my GGgrandfather or his
brothers. I am invalid and unable to travel to the different libraries and
archives to search for this information and don't know where to turn. Many, many
records were lost for this area, during the time before and just after the
Civil War, which is when they served the church. Does anyone have a clue where I
can turn. None of the Methodist organizations has been very helpful, except
for those in Arkansas, which only have info. on John Wade and his family,
several of, who became Methodist ministers, after him, in his lead.
Thank you,
Tess Davidson-Malta
