Yes, the Methodist Protestant Church was a part of the merger in 1939 in
which it united with the Methodist Episcopal Church and the Methodist Episcopal
Church, South to form The Methodist Church.
The Methodist Protestant Church (MP) was organized in 1830 and split from the
Methodist Episcopal (ME) Church at that time because they wanted a larger
participation for laymen in the church. At that time only clergy had voice in the
annual(regional) conference and the quadrennial General Conference of the ME
church. The MES split from the ME Church in 1844 over the issue of slavery.
The Methodist Commission and Archives web site www.gcah.org has many links if
you are interested in additional information about the history of the
Methodist Church. It also has links to the archives in each of the annual
conferences, which are the repositories for most of the existing records of individual
churches which are no longer in existence

I believe the 1939 merger is when the Methodist Protestant church came back
into the fold. I've kind of forgotten what their split was about or exactly
when in the 19th c. it happened. Perhaps someone can remind us how they were
different from Methodist Episcopal
