Hello,
Yes and no. The United Methodist Church is a concoction of churches
fromed in 1968 between the Methodist Church and the United Evangelical
Brethren. The Methodist Church was formed in 1939 when the Methodist
Protestant Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South united.--Most the MEC, South, were in the south.
The split that caused the distinction between MEC and MECS happened
around 1840-1850 over the slavery issue.
