When they are offered a scholarship from their second choice,
that gives them the opportunity
to talk to the first choice and ask for a scholarship explaining that
they would rather attend that school. If the first choice offers
a scholarship and it is not enough for the student to be able to
attend , I have seen them explain to the University and be allowed
a larger scholarship or a job at the school to make more etc.
All schools want the smartest kids. These will not only look
good for their future but also gives them smarter people who
will become alumni and donate to their school.
