That is about what my kids are paying for college too. One is going to be a
teacher and the other is studying computer science. Both have a full time
job and go to school full time. Grants and scholarship don't pay much at all
We are helping both kids as much as we can.

She may be able to save a few thousand by taking her 1st 2 years at a local
tech college. She just needs to make sure the class's she is taking at a
tech school will transfer to the school she wants to go to. We save about
$20,000 a year by doing 2 years in tech school before transferring for the
last 2 years.

Hopefully she is talking with her school guidance councilor. She should also
talk to her boss (assuming she has a job). Both of my kids employers kicked
in for some class's that were job related.

Depending on circumstances, living at home is cheapest, living in a dorm
room next cheapest, living in an apartment with ROOMMATES who ACTAULLY pay
their fair share is next cheapest. The most expensive is living alone.

Your granddaughters parents may be able to keep her on their health / car
insurance policy. I was able to take out students loans on behalf on my kids
at a lower interest rate then they could. I think its called a "parents plus
loan. Check with the local banks or savings and loan companies.

If accepted for a college, BEFORE buying anything for school see what the
school recommends. Some times items are banned from a college. IE freshman
year no car. While other things are required. Like a laptop computer.

Just my 2 cents, Jelayne

The town we lived in when I was in sixth grade through senior high was quite

Small. Kids couldn't get by with truancy. Everyone knew everyone. I, for
One, do not believe in child labor. The closest I come to accepting it is a
Newspaper route or helping around the house. School has become much more
Demanding than we knew. The price of college is the big problem now. My
Granddaughter has been scouting colleges and the one she's interested in
costs
$38,000. Per year plus living expenses. I honestly don't know how she's
going to
Do it. It scares me to death. She'll be paying student loans until she's
Fifty. I've tried to mention alternatives but she'll not listen. She has her

Mind set on this school. All I can do is pray that she makes it in one
Piece. Sharon K.
