Thanks for this site. I have been on Haze Gray Under Way that has alot about the ship, but I think this went into more detail. Thanks alot. I have his service records and I think I will copy it off and put it with them. In fact on the message boards a fellow wrote me and sent me a picture of bombing sq.10 that Johnny was in on board ship. I had never seen that before and was thrilled to get it. Like they said on the piece last night the average age was 19 on the ship. He was 17 when he went in July 1941. On the ship before his 18th birthday. He is gone now, passed away before his 65 birthday. Drinking had allot to do with his death, but was so sad. He had retired from the navy. He also served in the Mediterranean on the new Enterprise. But I think his love was always the old ship. He later went on to be an instructor part of the time, and flew again, crashed after the war was over in a mail plane. When my husband and him got to talking he had probably flown mail plane to his ship in the china area. That was odd.
Of my three brothers they were so different. 6-7 and 8 years older than me. My oldest brother was the stable on. Always could count on him, he got out of the navy after the war and was an electrician, installing pumps which came in handy when we moved here and had to put down a well. He put in our pump and got alot of things at cost for us. Then there was my Johnny, he was more happy go lucky. Married a few times along with a few near misses. But could always make you laugh. The youngest of my brothers alos got out of the navy after the war. He was smart, worked for the railroad for a time, but seemed to be the type if something could happen it always did. But loved him just the same.
Thanks again for the site.

Louise,

I found this:
USS Enterprise (CV-6) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

My brother was in the U.S. Navy in WW2 so I'm always interested in programs about it.

Just watched a program on the history channel about WW2 and the USS Enterprise. From the start of the war. My brother was a gunner in dive bombers. They showed how straight down they went in those days to drop the bombs. The canopy was always open incase they had to bail out. The rush of the air must have been really loud. They stopped with the battle of Midway as it was only an hour program. Hope to find more on the ship. I know there is alot on the ship. I wish she had been saved instead of scrapped.
